25th Anniversary Celebration
Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin kicked off its first day of its 25th anniversary year on Aug. 15. NDCL was established in 1988 when two strong traditions, Notre Dame Academy and Cathedral Latin School, united to promote their shared values: educational excellence; a life based upon Catholic faith; a strong commitment to achievement in school activities; and a devotion to Mary.
In this milestone year, more than 700 students will celebrate everything NDCL: past, present and future. Visit ndcl.org to see the list of events planned for the upcoming year.
Link Crew Transition Program
Enthusiastic cheers and high-fives from a crowd of upperclassmen and teachers greeted the 181 members of the class of 2017 when they walked through the doors of McGarry Gym the morning of Aug. 15.
The high-energy greeting celebrated the arrival the school’s youngest Lions and the start of Link Crew, a student-led transition program that links the incoming freshmen to juniors and seniors who will support them to succeed spiritually, academically and socially throughout the year.
“We are thrilled about the Link Crew program,” said Assistant Principal Vincent Bonacci. “It has a proven track record of success in high schools throughout the country and will continue to build upon the strengths of our community.”
Built on the belief that students can help other students succeed, Link Crew trains members of the junior and senior class to be yearlong link leaders. As positive role models, link leaders motivate incoming freshmen and help them discover what it takes to be successful in high school.
“Link Crew empowers our juniors and seniors to take a vital leadership role within their school. Through Link Crew, they actively connect with incoming freshmen and support them throughout the entire school year,” said Mrs. Rachel Siegel, director of college, counseling and support services.
Freshmen, juniors and seniors enjoyed an action-packed day on Wednesday, including icebreakers, community-building activities and the chance to find their classrooms and meet their teachers.
“It was a great way to get to know the juniors and seniors and make new friends,” said freshman Ethan Ziegenfuss. “It helped us feel more comfortable starting a new school.”
The freshmen will be linked to their mentors and meet once a month throughout the school year. Senior Madeline Wenzler is looking forward to getting to know her group.
“I am excited to bond with my group and help them connect to the NDCL community,” she said.
Link Crew leaders completed an application process and training program led by Mr. Bonacci, Mrs. Siegel and science teacher Nathan Smith.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to work with Link Crew, especially because I teach all freshmen and even have a freshman study hall. I look forward to helping them learn and grow during their first year of high school,” commented Mr. Smith.
College Kickoff Night
It’s time for seniors and their parents to “think college.” NDCL’s Office of College, Counseling and Support Services will host a College Kickoff Night for all seniors and their parents at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 in the O’Brien Center.
The program will provide families with essential information to help them successfully navigate the college application process. Registration is required; visit ndcl.org to register.
