4-H Clubs Sponsor Food Drive to Benefit Geauga Hunger Task Force

Local 4-H groups are holding a food drive to help increase donations to the seven local food pantries throughout Geauga County.

Local 4-H groups are holding a food drive to help increase donations to the seven local food pantries throughout Geauga County. The food drive began on April 1 and runs through Aug. 27.

Needed items include: canned meats, canned and boxed meals, canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, cereal, powered baby formula, pasta, rice, diapers, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo and bath tissue.

Collection boxes for foodstuffs have been conveniently set up across the county. Locations include: Kellis Eye Center in Chardon, The West Woods, Big Creek Park, Burton Public Library, Newbury Library and Holy Angels Church. If additional Geauga businesses want to put up a box, they should contact Tom Brugger at 440-339-8140.

Dr. Augustine Kellis, of Kellis Eye Center, has offered to match all monetary donations raised by 4-H clubs in the name of the Geauga County Task Force dollar for dollar, including a match of 50 cents for each canned item, up to $30,000.

Monetary donations may be made out to Geauga Hunger Task Force and mailed to Kellis Eye Center, c/o Debbie Turk, 150 Seventh Ave., Suite 100, Chardon, OH 44024 (440-285-2020).

A check for the donation will be presented to the Geauga Hunger Task Force at the Great Geauga County Fair. Donations are tax-deductible.
