Giggles ‘n Stitches

The Giggles ‘n Stitches 4-H Club worked hard this year on its clothing projects. Each member completed a project and project book in preparation for the Geauga County 4-H project judging and style show held on July 15. Their hard work really paid off.

In the Sew for Others category, Graycen Wood received an outstanding award and was selected to attend the Ohio State Fair. Ashlee Knittel was also awarded outstanding and is the alternate to state fair. Elizabeth Sawyer won the Creative Costumes class. She was given outstanding and state fair awards.

At the Ohio State Fair, Betsy was awarded outstanding of the day. In the Accessories for Teens category, Maggie Eibler took the outstanding and state fair ribbons. Outstanding and state fair recipient in Clothing for Your Career was Sheila Roberts.

In the category Sew Fun, Autumn Hamby received outstanding and alternate to state fair, while Corrin Hamby and Elizabeth Cooper were awarded outstanding. Katherine Baumgartner and Madison Thomas each received outstanding in the Loungewear category.

In the Dress Up Outfit Day Wear category, Sarah Miller received outstanding and state fair ribbons. Caroline Walker was awarded outstanding and alternate to state fair, and Sarah Ward received Outstanding.

Outstanding and state fair in the Tops for Tweens category went to Lillian Ostrander. Ashlee Knittel won the senior division of best modeling and Sarah Miller was nominated for Master Clothing Educator’s award, senior category.

Club members are now working to design their fair booth for the Great Geauga County Fair, which is held over Labor Day weekend. Their booth will be located in the Junior Fair building. Members will model their garments in a style show on Sept. 1 at 2 p.m. in the Junior Fair building.

Geauga Caprine Kids

Geauga Caprine Kids would like to invite the public to the Great Geauga County Fair. The fair will be running Aug. 28 through Sept. 1, Labor Day.

This year’s fair will have many more 4-H projects, and most, if not all, of the livestock barns will be overflowing with animals for everyone to see and bid on at the livestock auction. Because of the large number of animals at fair, Junior Fair will be starting the small animal auction at 2:30 p.m. and the large animal at 5 p.m.

If one has never attended or had the opportunity to bid on the animals being auctioned off, be sure to visit with the members in the barns earlier in the day. Each animal barn is full of 4-H members that can answer any questions one may have about the animals, auction and more. 4-H members love to talk about the animals they have been raising and caring for.

The small animal auction starts at 2:30 p.m. in the auction tent across from the arena with meat rabbits first followed by chickens, turkeys and ducks. The large animal auction starts at 5 p.m. in the arena with the dairy baskets followed by the swine (hogs), goats, lamb and beef.

One may be wondering why he or she should attend, bid on and possibly even successfully purchase one of these animal projects. A few reasons are: having a viable market enables the members to recoup their current year’s costs and re-invest for the coming year; the meat one is purchasing has been raised humanly and fed quality food for optimum growth and health; and the excess of the purchase price over market value might be deemed a business expense.

If one is interested in purchasing an animal but is unable to attend, please contact Sheryl Clemson at 440-313-7631 to make arrangements to bid on the animal of one’s choice.

Geauga Caprine Kids hopes everyone comes and sees them there. (Submitted by Justin Lane, news reporter)
