Feathers and Fleece

The Feathers and Fleece 4-H Club recently met at the Munson Town Hall to elect officers, set new by-laws, play team building games and have fun. The new officers for 2015 are: Annie Kinkopf, president; Max Wolf, vice president; It’saac Ray, secretary; Emily Stern, treasurer; Samantha Kosie, recreation officer; and Jessica Burden, news reporter.

The club is holding a fund-raising car wash on June 27 at Chardon Tractor Supply.

Last weekend, the club weighed in its 4-H animals in anticipation of selling the animals in the livestock sale at the Great Geauga County Fair. Some of the animals that will be sold include turkeys, chickens, sheep, goats, rabbits and cattle.

This year there will be 65 sheep. My favorite part of fair was the experience I got in doing showmanship. Members all had fun at the milk shake booth selling the best milk shakes ever. (Submitted by Jessica Burden, news reporter)

Geauga Dairymen

On May 31, Geauga Dairymen 4-H Club had a meeting at The Hastings Dairy Farm. Emma Niehus couldn’t make the meeting, so Nancy led it. Every member except one was at the meeting.

The club introduced its new member, McKenna. Members went around and introduced themselves to her. Members each had to say what school they went to, what grade they are in and how many years they have been in 4-H. After the introductions, they discussed old business.

The members that went to Dairy Palooza got their quality insurance

certificates. Members also got candy bars to sell. It is $1 for one candy bar. Some families got half of a box to sell, which is 30 bars, and some got a full box.

After everyone received the candy, the club discussed donating $100 to family affairs. Members motioned to approve the donation. The club members were also reminded that if their animal is staying at Emma’s, there is a $30 charge and they need to help clean the barn two to three times a week.

There is also a chance to make a poster board about night safety for honor club points. It is highly recommended that the healthy and safety officers of the club participate in this.

Skill-a-thon is July 18 and every member has to go. Members got their packets today on what they need to know. After Skill-a-thon, Emma is having a pool party at her house.

The club also decided on its baskets this year for fair. The theme will be a picnics and barbecues. Mrs. Hasting is making an apron with cow designs on it for the basket. Members are also putting various recipes for food in the basket, too. Club members are encouraged to buy items for the basket if they see something at the store. Please come check the basket at fair.

After we ended the meeting, we made blankets instead of doing a senior citizen yard clean up. Cookies and milk were provided for snacks. Also, some club members went out to see the cows. It was very wet and muddy so not everyone wanted to go. It was a very fun meeting!
