Pygmy Connection

The Pygmy Connection 4-H Club has been hard at work this summer. Club members studied in preparation for Skillathon, Geauga County’s animal project judging. Studying goat parts and learning vitamins and minerals paid off; the club earned all blue ribbons at Skillathon on July 18.

The club also took its annual camping trip to Punderson Campgrounds July 10-12. Members and families brought their campers and tents and participated in a weekend of fun activities and competitions.

The Pygmy Connection will be showing at the Great Geauga County Fair on Sept. 3 at 4 p.m. in the small arena. Please stop by the small arena throughout the fair weekend to take a look at the club’s pygmy goats and talk to club members.

Geauga Dairymen

On July 18, Geauga Dairymen 4-H Club had a meeting at Emma’s house. The meeting started off by talking about Brenda’s milk and club members’ favorite flavors. She has all different flavors, including banana and strawberry. After the roll call, members talked about how the club donated $100 to family affairs and its current balance. They also discussed the dairy basket and all the great things that are going to be in it. I’d tell you, but it would ruin the surprise. (Hint: come check out our yummy dairy products.)

The club’s Skillathon was also on July 18. It is where club members test into fair. For example, they have to know all the dairy breeds and feeds.

There is a safety poster contest going on; it is for honor club. The theme of this poster is nighttime safety. Members must do this on half of a big poster board. They are also currently discussing themes for the diary baskets and are thinking about backyard barbeques. Every member should bring one item for the basket.

Members talked about their clothing choices this year, too. They decided that the club T-shirts this year would be kelly green. The club was also thinking about putting a quote on the back of the shirt. The fair theme this year is blue jeans and country dreams.

Also at fair, they decided to keep the barn display colors black and green, the club’s colors. The last thing members decided for fair at this meeting is that they are going to volunteer in the farm bureau this year again.

After the meeting was finished, members took their club pictures in their blue jeans. Then, they had a pool party and backyard barbeque. It was very fun.
