Geauga Caprine Kids

Finally, all of the skillathon testing is done and club members are busy preparing for the Great Geauga County Fair. They are clipping, shaving, cleaning and prepping their animals for the upcoming fair. As one might know, members are not taking any poultry projects to fair this year because of the threat of avian flu.

The auction of poultry projects (turkeys, chickens and ducks) will be a bit different this year with no actual birds at the fair. The 4-H leaders have come up with a way to sell the club’s meat birds at the auction without endangering the poultry’s health. The club will have the birds processed ahead of time so members can still auction off the poultry, which means the public will still be able to bid on and purchase a poultry project, but the bird will not be at the fair or auction. Club members will then deliver the processed birds after the fair to each individual buyer.
