Geauga Dairymen

On Jan. 30, Geauga Dairymen held its very first 4-H meeting of the year at Emma’s mom’s house at 3 p.m. Mark led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and the pledge to the 4-H flag. Snacks were provided; the group enjoyed club crackers and a bunch of different types of cheese. There were also juice boxes being passed around in a basket. Everyone was present at the meeting except Maddi and Dominic.

The meeting started off by going over old business. Members discussed the money the club had for this year and old business from last year.

Since the new year just started in 4-H, members had to pick new positions for everyone. Paul got elected as president and the other positions were assigned. It was decided that the group was going to be run more by kids this year rather then the adults planning everything. Thirty minutes before the meeting, the treasurer, secretary, vice president and president will meet to discuss what they are going to talk about in the meeting.

After that, club members received a packet of papers. One of the papers included the enrollment of the members for the 2016 year. It is due by April 15. Another paper was the rules and regulations for the 4-H program and the Hoard’s Dairymen judging contest. For those who are unfamiliar with the contest, it is many pictures of dairy cows separated by breeds and members have to pick out the best cow out each breed and then pick the best one overall. The results are due by March 26.

The group also discussed the upcoming events. For 4-H week, members decided where they wanted to do the window this year. They decided on the place the club did last year, with the owner’s permission, of course. They also discussed many of the events coming up, but do not want to spoil the surprise of where the club is going.

Towards the end of the meeting, members talked about the laws and getting the forms in on time while snacking on some cheese and crackers. It was a fun meeting and I look forward to reporting on the next meeting. Club members are excited for the new year.
