Auburn Swine

The Auburn Swine 4-H Club met on May 1. At this meeting we got the final preparations done for the upcoming Pig Roast on May 21. During this meeting the members received line dance lessons for the Pig Roast. The line dancing will be a thank you to attendees that the members will perform at the Pig Roast. Sandy, from B-Line Dancers, in Newbury, came to provide the instruction. A necessity of the Pig Roast are donations, we found we did not receive as many as planned so we came up with a solution which is to collect the donations received and make them one large basket, to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Next we discussed pig tagging for the fair, as well as preparations that are needed for our other 4-H requirements. These requirements include Quality Assurance, which is mandatory for all members of 4-H. The QA day will take place on May 14 at the Geauga County Fair Grounds. The members also signed up for the fundraiser that is arriving soon. The fundraiser is selling Malley’s Chocolate Bars as well as selling Welch’s Fruit Snacks. The meeting was adjourned after an hour. Tickets for the Auburn Swine Pig Roast can be purchased by contacting Jodi Durkee at daisyblue232@yahoo.com. (Submitted by Garret Tomasek, news reporter)

Breeders and Feeders

At the Breeders and Feeders 4-H Club’s April meeting, Guinea pigs received their books and reports were given. Rabbits discussed cage tags, fans, storage and showing.

Poultry discussed the turkey pickup date, poultry workshop and received their books. Swine practiced for skill-a-thon and talked about preparing and getting pigs. All pigs need to be tagged by May 20.

Four-H camp is June 19-25 and skill-a-thon at the fairgrounds is July 16. The next meeting is May 22 at Munson Town Hall. (Submitted by Liesel Fenstermaker, news reporter)
