Geauga Dairymen
Geauga Dairymen 4-H Club held an important meeting on Aug. 1. We sent out their buyer’s letters in hope of someone purchasing the club basket. When we first sat down, we had to write our letters. It was recommended that everyone bring an address to send someone a buyer’s letter at the meeting. Milkshake coupons are going into the buyers’ letters; the milkshakes are amazing at fair.
After we finished writing the letters, we had ice cream before the meeting started. When it did start, we did the attendance with favorite summertime activities.
The safety posters were due Aug. 1 at 3 p.m. After more old business news, we went over our fair registration and enrolled in our classes.
Fair registration is due Aug. 10. We got new dark blue sweatshirts this year. Our T-shirts are the color of the Cavs.
We decided to put our dairy basket in a big red cooler on wheels. Make sure to look for the cooler at fair. The dairy basket is very important to the club and everyone personalizes it. Every member from the club adds an item to the dairy basket.
The club decided on not having another meeting. The next thing we have coming up is barn setup for the fair, which is taking place on Aug. 28 at 9:30 a.m. We voted on buying Subway sandwiches for the meeting. Also, at fair, we are getting pizza and cake after our shows. The cake is for celebrating some of our members’ graduations from high school.
Every member is donating $5 for water bottles at fair.
Club members discussed the king and queen nominations and then voted. We also made a decision to donate to the people with the Brown Swiss at fair. They are going through a really rough time now and they lost everything in a barn fire that spread to their cars and eventually to their house. Luckily, no one was hurt, but please keep the family in your thoughts. We all hope to see you at fair. (Submitted by Lizzie Knopp, news reporter)
Breeders and Feeders
Breeders and Feeders 4-H Club will meet at 3 p.m. Aug. 13 at Memory Lake for its annual club campout meeting. Take the drive all the way down to the lake. Camp counselors are planning games, including tug-a-war, water balloon toss and egg toss.
Please bring a dish to pass and remember to bring a swimsuit. Also, bring food donations for Geauga Hunger Task Force.
Pig setup is at 8 a.m. Aug. 20. Each Junior Fair exhibitor will need to bring snacks that are to be individually wrapped. Suggestions are snack size bags cookies, crackers, chips or pretzels, or veggies and dip, fresh fruit or cheese. Items may be dropped off the day of the sale at the livestock sales office starting at noon or at the small animal tent.
Help is needed in setting up and tearing down the small animal tent and the arena on Sept. 3 for the Junior Fair Livestock Auction. (Submitted by Liesel Fenstermaker, news reporter)
