Congratulations go to Hambden Alliance Church for its wonderful float in last week’s Maple Festival parades. The float was incredible. Float participants were all real troopers, too, for braving Sunday’s rain. Great job.
Hambden Community Picnic
The picnic planning committee is still looking for residents who are interested in helping with the picnic. Chinese auction donations are also needed.
There will be another meeting on May 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the township hall. We’d love to have you join us.
Fire Department Rib Dinner
A Mother’s Day tradition continues. On May 12, the Hambden Fire Department will be cooking dinner for mom. Dinner includes St. Louis pork spareribs, potato wedges, beans, coleslaw and a drink. Cost is $13 for a half slab dinner or $16 for a full slab.
Tickets can be purchased from any Hambden firefighter or by calling the fire department at 440-285-3329. Dinners will be ready for pickup from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reservation deadline is May 6.
Rolling Thunder Bike Blessing
This patriotic service to honor our veterans and pray for Rolling Thunder as they prepare to make their annual trip to Washington, D.C., will be held at 10:15 a.m. May 19 at Hambden Congregational Church.
The church is located at 13840 GAR Hwy. in Hambden Township. For more information, call Dorothy at 440-286-4655.
Memorial Day Observance
Hambden Township will hold its annual Memorial Day parade and observance May 27. All local 4-H groups, ball teams and Scouts are invited to join in the parade. Hambden children with decorated bikes and wagons are also welcome walk in the parade. Please call Mary Ann at the township hall at 440-286-4364 and let her know.
After the parade and short service, the names of Hambden veterans will be read at the township park. The morning will conclude with a pancake breakfast at Hambden Fire Department.
