DDC Clinic Offers Genetic Testings

DDC Clinic Center for Special Needs Children, located at 14567 Madison Road, Middlefield, is a nonprofit primary care and research facility serving patients with complex medical needs.

Founded as a unique collaboration between Amish and non-Amish families, DDC Clinic began providing services in 2002 to children with rare genetic disorders — disorders that are difficult and time-consuming to diagnose and treat.

DDC Clinic was founded on the con-cept of a medical home as defined by the American Academy of Pediatrics and on the principle that no child would ever be turned away from medical care he or she needs based on the family’s ability to pay.

The clinic provide medical services for patients with over 70 different rare conditions and is recognized as a leading international medical facility.

Unable to find reliable and quality testing for their growing number of patients, DDC Clinic established its own genetic research laboratory in 2005.

The clinic has had great success in diagnosing and treating a growing number of disorders and is widely cited as international experts in rare diseases with more than 35 research publications in major journals including “Science and Proceedings” of The National Academy of Sciences.

Faced with a growing number of requests from physicians around the country for access to these diagnostic tests, the clinic added clinical laboratory capabilities in 2013 and established the Molecular Genetics Laboratory, which now offers more than 50 genetic test offerings.

These tests include both full gene and targeted mutation analyses by direct DNA sequencing, the gold standard of genetic testing. DDC Clinic is the only genetic lab in Ohio that has both FDA-cleared high tech in vitro diagnostic equipment. The lab offers both high-resolution, whole-genome chromosomal microarray testing and next generation sequencing.
