FGP Explorers Series

Join Foundation for Geauga Parks Trustees to walk the trails in Frohring Meadows in Bainbridge Township and learn more about the FGP Pollinator Garden Program, supported by the Cleveland Foundation Lake-Geauga Fund.
Pre-registration is not required. Meet the group at the Katydid Lodge to walk the Big Bluestem and Dragonfly trails. Bring water, binoculars and cameras, if desired.

Polka Party

St. Mark Lutheran Church Women’s League hosts its annual garage sale at the church located at 11900 Chillicothe in Chester Township.
Hours are Thursday, 4-7 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Community Fishing Derby
Sept. 11, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Munson Township’s Community Fishing Derby is open to all Munson Township residents at the Scenic River Retreat, 10900 Mayfield Road. Bring a fishing pole. Catch and release only; bait will be provided. Door prizes awarded.
St. Patrick Chinese Auction
Sept. 11, 11 a.m.
St. Patrick Church is hosting its annual Chinese auction at the church located at 16550 Rock Creek Road in Thompson Township. Doors open at 11 a.m. for the auction and a light lunch. The drawing begins at 1:30 p.m. followed by a 50/50 raffle. Winners need not be present.
An entrance fee of $2 includes six raffle tickets. Additional auction tickets and raffle tickets will be for sale.
Geauga Veterans Sport Fest
Sept. 11, 3 p.m.
The third annual Geauga Veterans Sport Fest will be held at the Great Lakes Outdoor Supply parking lot at 14855 N. State Ave. in Middlefield.
The event will also commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Activities will include a 50-item raffle, local concessions, music, prizes and fireworks beginning at 8 p.m.
Admission is free. An optional ticket for $20 provides 50 chances to win items in raffle drawings. Prizewinners need not be present.
Raffle tickets are available to purchase at Great Lakes Outdoor Supply; the Chardon VFW Hall, 752 Water St.; the Middlefield VFW Hall, 16013 E. High St.; American Legion posts in Geauga County; and via the GeaugaVets.com website. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the event.

Fall Fish Sale
Sept. 16, 1:30-3:30 p.m.
The Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual fall fish sale will be held on the midway at the Geauga County Fairgrounds. Orders are currently being taken for fingerling-size largemouth bass, redear “shellcracker” sunfish, yellow perch, bluegill/sunfish mix, channel catfish, white amurs and fathead minnows. Pond safety kits and farm pond management books are also available.
