This and That Sale

Sept. 9-11

St. Mark Lutheran Church Women’s League hosts its annual garage sale at the church located at 11900 Chillicothe in Chester Township.

Hours are Thursday, 4-7 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Booth space is available at $25 for all three days. Call Edie at 440-667-5996 to reserve a space.

Community Fishing Derby

Sept. 11, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Munson Township’s Community Fishing Derby is open to all Munson Township residents at the Scenic River Retreat, 10900 Mayfield Road. Bring a fishing pole. Catch and release only; bait will be provided. Door prizes awarded.

St. Patrick Chinese Auction

Sept. 11, 11 a.m.

St. Patrick Church is hosting its annual Chinese auction at the church located at 16550 Rock Creek Road in Thompson Township. Doors open at 11 a.m. for the auction and a light lunch. The drawing begins at 1:30 p.m. followed by a 50/50 raffle. Winners need not be present.

An entrance fee of $2 includes six raffle tickets. Additional auction tickets and raffle tickets will be for sale.

Fair Redistricting Rally

Sept. 11, 2 p.m.

Bainbridge Community United Church of Christ and League of Women Voters Geauga are hosting, in partnership with Valley Presbyterian Church, Community Church of Chesterland UCC, the Social Justice Advocacy Ministry of Federated Church Chagrin Falls and Ledgewood Community Church, an event open to anyone interested in fair legislative maps in Ohio. There will be non-partisan information presented and an opportunity to take action.

The event will be outside and masks are encouraged. The church is located at 17751 Chillicothe Road in Bainbridge Township.

Geauga Veterans Sport Fest

Sept. 11, 3 p.m.

The third annual Geauga Veterans Sport Fest will be held at the Great Lakes Outdoor Supply parking lot at 14855 N. State Ave. in Middlefield.

Activities will include a 50-item raffle, local concessions, music, prizes and fireworks beginning at 8 p.m.

Admission is free. An optional ticket for $20 provides 50 chances to win items in raffle drawings. Prizewinners need not be present.

Raffle tickets are available to purchase at Great Lakes Outdoor Supply; the Chardon VFW Hall, 752 Water St.; the Middlefield VFW Hall, 16013 E. High St.; American Legion posts in Geauga County; and via the GeaugaVets.com website. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the event.

Genealogical Society Meets

Sept. 14, 7-9 p.m.

Linda Swanson, digital director at the Ohio Genealogical Society (OGS), will present “OMG, the OGS Website” via Zoom at the next virtual meeting of the Geauga County Genealogical Society.

Slovenian Sausage Festival

Sept. 15, 12-9 p.m.

The 17th annual Slovenian Sausage Festival returns to SNPJ Recreation Farm, 10945 Heath Road, Kirtland. Sample and vote for one’s favorite smoked sausage and dance with 10 polka orchestras and entertainers, featuring Polka Hall of Fame legends.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the gate. Youth 18 and under are free. Food and beverages are extra.

VFW Meatloaf Dinners

Wednesdays, 5-7 p.m.

Chardon VFW Post 6519 will serve meatloaf dinners every Wednesday in September at the post located at 752 Water St. Donation is $8. The public is welcome.

Rummage Sale

Sept. 17, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sept. 18, 9 a.m. to noon

Peace Lutheran Church will host a rummage sale in the lower parking lot behind the church located at 12686 Bass Lake Road, Munson Township.

CV Herb Society Meets

Sept. 17, 12:30 p.m.

The Chagrin Valley Herb Society will meet at the Bainbridge Library for refreshments and a business meeting. At 2 p.m., the group will meet at the Bainbridge Historical Museum, 17810 Chillicothe Road, for a tour of the museum and grounds.

Roast Beef Dinner

Sept. 17, 5-7 p.m.

Enjoy a roast beef dinner with mashed potatoes, sides and dessert at Parkman Congregational Church, 18265 Madison Road, Parkman Township. Dinner is drive-thru, carryout only.

Donation is $12. Proceeds benefit missions

Airport Community Day

Sept. 18, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Fly-in or drive-in for Airport Community Day at Geauga County Airport, 15421 Old State Road in Middlefield.

A pancake breakfast will be served from 7-11 a.m. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for youth 3-12. Food truck lunch will be available.

Young Eagle airplane rides will be offered for youth ages 8-17 with parental permission from 8 a.m. to noon.

Event also features youth activities, vintage aircraft and displays.

Admission is free. Bring lawn chairs.

Proceeds benefit Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 5.

Get Septic Smart

Sept. 21, 6-7:30 p.m.

The Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District and Geauga Public Health will host a free SepticSmart program at the Geauga West Library. Presenters Dave Sage and Zach Myers, registered sanitarians with Geauga Public Health, will discuss how a home septic system works, how to maintain a home sewage treatment system and what to do when it appears to not be working properly.
