Community Policy Discussion

Geauga Bipartisan Advancements, a small nonprofit that seeks to bring Geauga County residents of all political leanings together for civil discussion, is hosting a community discussion on abortion policy and firearm policy.
All Geauga residents are encouraged to attend the constructive community meeting at the Geauga West Library, 13455 Chillicothe Road, Chester Township.

CV Herb Society Meets

Flea Market on the Greens
Aug. 20, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Chesterland Historical Village will host its annual Flea Market On The Village Green featuring more than 70 vendors with Rogish Farm flowers and vegetables, day lilies, Freddie’s Fabulous Franks, music and treasures galore.
The village is located on the corner of Caves and Mayfield roads in Chester Township. Parking is free.
Free Fresh Produce

Newbury United Community Church is hosting a fresh produce giveaway at 14961 Auburn Road. Cleveland FoodBank provides the service to low income Geauga County residents the third Saturday of each month through October. Please bring ID and bags.
Art, Craft and Vendor Show
Aug. 20, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Berkshire Tunebackers is hosting Back the Tunes Summer Art, Craft and Vendor Shows the third Saturday of each month through Sept. 17 at the Burton Village circle.
Admission is free. Proceeds benefit the Berkshire School District Music Department.

Raccoon County Music Festival
Aug. 20, noon to 6 p.m.
The Raccoon County Music Festival will be held at the Geauga County Historical Society’s Century Village Museum, 14653 East Park St. in Burton. It will feature performances on two stages, hands on workshops, spontaneous jamming and more. Historical village buildings and the Crossroads museum store will be open.
Food and drink will be available for sale, but event-goers may bring their own meals as well as chairs and blankets.
Admission is $10 for those 13 and older; $5 for children ages 6-12; and free for children under 6.

American Legion Chicken BBQ

Chicken BBQ and Car Show
Aug. 21, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
SS Edward and Lucy Parish will host its 13th annual Chicken Barbecue and Car Show, rain or shine, at 16150 Center St. in Parkman. Event features classic cars and trucks, Chinese auction, raffles, bingo, DJ Cory and family horse racing.
Tickets for the barbecue chicken dinner are $14 for adults and $6 for children 10 and under.
Donation of $10 is requested for car show entries. Goodie bags and dash plaques will be given for the first 100 cars. Three prizes will be awarded and door prizes will be awarded every 15 minutes.

Kiwanis Summer Concert Series

The Kiwanis Club of West Geauga concludes its summer concert series at the Chester Township Park gazebo with the Great Geauga County Fair Band.

Geauga Benefit Auction
Aug. 26
The 22nd annual benefit auction for D.D.C. Clinic – Center for Special Needs Children will be held at the Buster Miller Farm, 17719 Newcomb Road, Middlefield. Barbecue chicken lunch stand and carryouts are available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m..; the auction starts at 2 p.m.
Bid on quilts, furniture, home decor, tools, buggies and more, including a 24×32-foot garage, a patio with fireplace or a 16×20-foot timber frame pavilion.
Event also includes silent auction, basket raffles, baked goods, train rides and other activities for children.
Bainbridge CUCC Flea Market

Forest Literacy Field Day
Aug. 27, 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Explore the beech-maple forest of the West Woods in Russell Township with naturalist Vicki Solomon, learning to recognize its main tree types. The four hour outing covers almost two miles and includes a stop near a waterfall to enjoy packed lunches.

Bainbridge Rox

Bainbridge Civic Club is hosting its annual Bainbridge Rox at Centerville Mills Park, 8558 Crackel Road in Bainbridge Township. Admission and parking are free.
The event features live music, ox roast, children’s entertainment area, food trucks, beer tent, mud volleyball tournament, Texas Hold’em tournament and an exhibitor area for local artisans and businesses.

DTJ Chicken and Duck Dinner

DTJ Taborville is having a chicken and duck dinner at 9850 North Blvd., Auburn Township. Frank Moravcik will provide music from 12:30-3:30 p.m.

EAA Flying Start Program

Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 5 is hosting a Flying Start informational program on learning to fly in Hangar 3 of the Geauga County Airport, 15421 Old State Road in Middlefield. The event will cover the steps and requirements in learning to fly, provide tips on how to make it economical and will culminate in a free introductory flight. The program is open to adults 18 and older
