In Search of Pawpaws

Sept. 7, 2-3:30 p.m.

Join Naturalist Trevor Wearstler to learn all about Ohio’s native fruit andits namesake full moon at Big Creek Park. Learn all about this fleshy, fragile fruit, then enjoy a hike in the park to see where it grows.

Then, join “Astro-Nat” Chris Mentrek at Observatory Park from 7-8 p.m. for a walk to explore nature at night and a telescope-enhanced observation of the rising Pawpaw Moon, weather permitting.

Astronomy Community Showcase

Sept. 12, 7-8:30 p.m.

Learn from a sampler of short presentations from amateurs in the local astronomy community. Followed by night sky viewing, weather permitting.

Those curious about the local astronomy community may head out to Observatory Park on to enjoy a sampler of short presentations from area amateurs. Astronomy Naturalist Chris Mentrek will also follow the showcase with night sky viewing using park telescopes, weather permitting

Be An Educated Hunter

Sept. 13 and 20, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Geauga Park District’s Ranger Department is offering a Hunter Education Course at Big Creek Park’s Donald W. Meyer Center. Coursework will be for first-time hunters who want to acquire a hunting license, covering a range of topics from conservation, safety and ethics to the proper handling of firearms, bowhunting gear and more. All necessary equipment will be provided. Bring a pencil or pen and highlighter.

Registration is required on the Ohio Division of Natural Resources’ website at oh-web.s3licensing.com.

Students must attend both days and pass a 100-question multiple choice exam by a score of 75% or higher in order to obtain certification toward a hunting license after the course. All under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
