 Bluebird Patrol

May 20, 1-2 p.m.

Celebrate International Migratory Bird Day and learn about Eastern bluebird by taking a leisurely walk around Frohring Meadows in Bainbridge Township. Join field naturalist Tami Gingrich as she monitors bluebird boxes, observes different nests and eggs and shares clues about how to attract and identify different cavity-nesting bird species that use nest boxes. If the opportunity presents itself, watch nestlings be banded for scientific research.

Tea & Wildflowers

May 26, 10-11:30 a.m.

Celebrate spring and all the splendor it brings. Program begins with a wildflower talk by naturalists while guests enjoy a variety of teas and pastries. Then everyone will head out onto the paved trail for a hike among the meadow flowers. Registration is required.

Climb, Ride, Glide & Play

As of May 30, the new Claridon Woodlands’ highly anticipated ropes course, pump track/single mountain bike track, freeform boulder wall and nature-based playground begs you to play all day, and Geauga Park District’s popular kayak/canoe-borrowing program returns on June 6 to Headwaters Park.

The ropes course features platforms 32 feet off the ground linked by eight 23-to-32-foot-long challenge elements and an exciting 100-foot-long zipline.

For the mountain bikers, there is a pump track and a connected 2,025-foot-long linear single mountain bike track featuring 2-foot-wide boardwalk crossings.

Climbers can test their strength and strategy on a new 12-foot-high, 900-square-foot freeform boulder wall, and kids can explore a nature-based playground.

All of the park’s amenities will be free for Geauga County residents. Ropes course sessions are each one hour in duration, available Wednesdays through Sundays from 1-8 p.m., requiring a trained staff member’s assistance to ensure fun and safe adventures for all.

Ropes course participants must be between 50 and 275 pounds and at least 54 inches tall. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult to sign a waiver; accompanying adults need not climb the course.

For those craving adventure on the water, self-guided tours of East Branch Reservoir will also become available beginning June 6 starting at the Headwaters Park Boathouse. Each loan can last up to two hours, available Wednesdays through Sundays from 1-8 p.m. Call 440-279-0850 to confirm hours before visiting.

Geauga County residents can borrow the park’s limited number of kayaks and canoes for free. Provided life vests must be worn at all times, and a driver’s license will be held as a security deposit for each loan. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
