Burgers & Butterflies, Dogs & Dragons

July 8, 12-3:30 p.m.

Join the annual census to learn identification, habits and food sources of these amazing insects at Swine Creek Reservation. Participants who catch a butterfly or dragonfly get a free hamburger or hot dog.

All ages are welcome. Nets will be provided. Bring sunscreen and wear long pants.

Outdoor Adventure Camps

Geauga Park District’s summer camps still have limited availability for youth entering grades five through seven the weeks of July 16, July 30 and Aug. 6, and for teens entering grades eight through 10 on July 6 during X-TREME Days and the week of July 23.

Weeklong campers experience kayaking, biking, fishing, stream exploration, rockets and much more; older campers also climb the new Claridon Woodlands high ropes course. X-TREME Days campers then focus on high ropes on July 6.

Vendor Spaces Available

July 14, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Booth spaces are still available at the 13th annual Geauga County Chapter of the Ohio Horseman’s Council’s benefit flea market being heldin the picnic shelters area of The West Woods, 9465 Kinsman Road in Russell Township.

Outdoor spaces, the size of two parking spaces, can be reserved for $25, or an 8-foot picnic table under the shelter can be reserved for $15.

The event will again be hosted by Geauga County Ohio Horseman’s Council in cooperation with Geauga Park District. All proceeds from the event, and application fees for vendor spaces, will then benefit the Bridle Trail Fund for Geauga Park District trails and the Geauga County Chapter of the Ohio Horseman’s Council.

Controlled Hunting

Geauga Park District is accepting applications for the Geauga Park District’s 2018-19 controlled hunting program for white-tailed deer.Adult and youth applications to participate are being accepted through July 30. Opportunities are available for archery, shotgun or muzzleloader.

Forms are available online or for pick-up at The West Woods Nature Center, Big Creek Park’s Meyer Center and Great Lakes Outdoor Supply in Middlefield.

All lottery winners will be notified and required to complete qualifications before the hunt.
