Fascinating Feathered Features

Oct. 16, 7-8:30 p.m.

Blackbrook Audubon Society will present three short presentations on birds: Coffee and Bird Conservation, Behind the Scenes in the Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s Ornithology Department andNorthern Saw-Whet Owl Banding Update. All are welcome to attend the mini programs in the Donald W. Meyer Center at Big Creek Park in Chardon Township.

Earthquake Van Trip

Oct. 20, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Meet at the Meyer Center at Big Creek Park to join a naturalist on a van trip to visit the sites of some past Northeast Ohio earthquakes and the present-day seismographs that study them. A drive to each site will include a quick exploration on foot. Participants should bring a packed lunch and dress for the weather. Registration required.

Horse-Drawn Wagon Rides

Oct. 20, 21, 27 and 28, 1-5 p.m.

All are welcome to enjoy the sights, sounds and scents of fall with free first-come, first-served wagon rides through Swine Creek Reservation, 16004 Hayes Road in Middlefield Township. Each day’s final departure is at 4:30 p.m. Timed passes will be distributed as guests arrive; rides last about a half hour and are cancelled by bad weather. No pets, please.

Seniors may also now register for Elderberries: Fall Wagon Ride onOct. 18from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., beginning with a free picnic lunch provided by the Geauga County Department on Aging and University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center and ending with a relaxing ride through the woods.

Fall Scout Days

Explore The West Woods to earn some scouting credit. Registration is required for all four programs. Dress for the weather and call ahead with questions.

Brownie Girls Scouts will work on the Brownie Hiker Badge on Oct. 20 from 9:30-11 a.m.

Webelos Scouts may join for the Walkabout Core Adventure on Oct. 20 from 1-4 p.m.

Daisy Scouts will start their journey toward earning the Clover Petal onNov. 17, from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

On Nov. 17 from 1-2 p.m., Tiger Cubs may join to explore nature in the Backyard Jungle Adventure.
