Hunter Education Course
Oct. 20 and 27, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Geauga Park District’s Ranger Department is offering a two-day course for beginner huntersat Big Creek Park’s Donald W. Meyer Center. Admission is limited to 10 students, with registration required on the Ohio Division of Natural Resources’ website at http://bit.ly/2DXmn6G.
Coursework will be for first-time hunters who want to acquire a hunting license, covering a range of topics from conservation, safety and ethics to the proper handling of firearms, bowhunting gear and more. All necessary equipment will be provided. Bring a pencil or pen and a highlighter.
Students must attend both days and pass a 100-question multiple choice exam by a score of 75 percent or higher in order to obtain certification toward a hunting license after the course. All under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Equine Park Fun
Oct. 21
Register to bring one’s horse to join for a Geauga Park District naturalist-led ride on the Buckeye and Maple Bridle Trails. Meet at Headwaters Park, Crystal Lake Picnic Area.
The Headwaters Horse Ride is from 3-5 p.m. followed by the Horseback Moonlight Ride from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Riders must trailer their own horses to the park. Helmets are encouraged. Bring a shovel to clean up after the horse in the parking lot. Registration is limited.
In addition, free horse-drawn wagon rides at Swine Creek Reservation are offered on a first-come, first-served basis Oct. 20, 21, 27 and 28, from 1 to 5 p.m.
Pumpkin Centerpiece Workshop
Oct. 26, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Join floral designer Louise Reiling from Auburn Pointe Greenhouse to create a floral arrangement in a hollowed-out pumpkin. The workshop for ages 15 and older will be held in the West Woods’ Affelder House.
Fee of $22 covers materials and refreshments. Registration is required.
The Affelder House is located at 15139 Chillicothe Road via a separate drive from The West Woods’ main entrance.
