Elderberries: Down on the Farm

Jan. 17, 1-2:30 p.m.

Return to Geauga County 60 years ago and experience rural living before the modern era of industrial development. The indoor lecture program at the West Woods Nature Center is a collaboration with the Geauga Department on Aging and University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center. Refreshments will be provided. Registration is required.

Frozen Fest

Jan. 20, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Join Geauga Park District for its fifth annual Frozen Fest at The West Woods.

Free family activities include: live ice carving/sculptures, guest appearances by a winter snowman, ice princesses and a popular reindeer herder, live reindeer, snowshoeing, snow-themed crafts, face painting, refreshments and much more.

The Nature Center is fully accessible. Due to the popularity of this event, however, strollers should be left outside.

The parking lots always fill quickly during Frozen Fest. Overflow parking locations will be located at ASM and Teague Plaza, with free shuttle rides to and from the event.

Total Lunar Eclipse

Jan. 20, 11 p.m. to 3:30 a.m.

Enrich one’s January with a special middle-of-the-night total lunar eclipse at Observatory Park, 10610 Clay St. in Montville Township.

The most dramatic portion occurs the first hour. Bundle up and use park telescopes for a glimpse of Earth’s shadow completely darkening the moon.

Registration is not required, but cloudy skies will cancel the evening’s events. If the forecast is questionable, call the day of the event between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to learn whether it’s still on.
