Happy Holidays

Everyone at the township hall would like to wish all residents a very merry Christmas and happy New Year. Township offices will be closed Dec. 25 and 26, as well as New Year’s Day, Jan. 1.

The township will hold its year-end organizational meeting on Dec. 31 at 10 a.m. at the township hall. Meeting days and times for 2015 will be listed in next week’s article.

Winter Reminders

Just a couple of reminders for winter snow plowing: Please do not push snow out into the road or across the road when plowing the driveway. It is not only illegal, but can also be very dangerous for other drivers and mail delivery.

When one piles the snow up around mailboxes, it can make it very difficult to deliver the mail as well as contribute to destruction of mailbox posts. The township is responsible if the plow truck actually hits the mailbox, but not if it is broken by flying snow. The more snow around the post, the more to fly up and cause damage.

If a mailbox is hit, the township will reimburse the resident $35 or install a new standard mailbox/post. The mailbox must be damaged beyond reasonable repair to be eligible for a new one. The road department superintendent will make this determination. The township hopes everyone will have a safe winter.

Christmas Tree Recycling

Hambden Township has once again applied for and received a grant for Christmas tree recycling. Christmas trees can be placed in the bin at the township park Dec. 27 through mid-January.

There will not be anyone to help with the trees when you bring them, but they can be dropped off any time during daylight hours.

No Dogs Allowed

As much as the township does not like limiting access to any township properties, trustees must ask residents to stop walking their dogs in the township cemetery. Many residents have complained about the situation and the fact that some people are not cleaning up after their dogs. There are plenty of places in the township park to walk dogs. Signs will be posted in the cemetery.

Got News?

We always like to hear from our residents. If you have something you would like to let your friends and neighbors know about, whether it is a new business, meeting or special occasion, email Nadine Pope at popemi@roadrunner.com.

I would especially like to hear from residents about any holiday events at businesses that our neighbors would not want to miss.
