Maplewood Senior Living Hosts Dementia And Alzheimer’s Disease Symposium

Maplewood Senior Living is hosting “The Person Comes First: A Dementia Research and Caregiving Symposium” in partnership with Alzheimer’s Association, Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging and Northeast Ohio Medical University at The Marriott, 26300 Harvard Road, Beachwood. The symposium will feature renowned experts, a multitude of engaging presentations, and valuable resources available both caregivers and family members.
Neuropsychiatrist Brain Appleby, director of National Prion Disease Pathology Surveillance Center, Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals, will deliver the keynote presentation, “I Have Dementia Now What?” He will discuss the importance of an early diagnosis and how to understand the symptoms as well as provide an overview of various dementias and how other medical diagnosis may impact a dementia diagnosis.

Help For Mental Illness
Geauga County National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) offers support, education and advocacy for those affected by mental illness.
NAMI Community Garden will be open every Saturday in September from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Morning Star Friends Church, 12550 Ravenna Road in Chardon. Come for free produce, support, to paint garden stones and exchange recipes.
Growth Through Grief support group is designed to guide loved ones through their journey to find hope and healing after suicide. The free, open group meets the second Wednesday of each month. A free, closed eight-week session is held on the first and third Wednesday of each month, starting in October. Meetings are held at NAMI Geauga, 107 South St. in Chardon.
