Hello from Geauga County Amish Country

Monday was a rainy morning and I suppose the deer hunters are wishing it were a little colder with a little snow.

Monday was a rainy morning and I suppose the deer hunters are wishing it were a little colder with a little snow. It seems often on the first day of deer season it is rainy. Sorry, guys.

The community is still “reeling” from the shock of the house fire of the Marvin Miller home on Peters Road claiming the life of 2-year-old Ruthie. Mother and five children remain in the hospital if my reports are correct. May we all keep them in our prayers.

I made another trip to Mio, Mich., the morning of Nov. 21 for the wedding of nephew Henry Miller and Marnita Stutzman, coming home the evening of Nov. 22. Also going were Crist and Clara Hershberger, Mrs. Crist S. Yoder, Allen and Ada Miller, Crist and Maurine Hershberger and little daughter LeAnne, and Ray and Barbara Miller and son. I stayed at daughter Betty and Melvin’s for the night. Also at Melvin’s in the evening were sisters Clara and Eli Kauffman and Sylvia and Albert Miller plus Melvin’s married children. It was a nice evening of visiting and eating snacks.

Supper guests at Wayne and Judy Miller’s the evening of Nov. 25 were Dan and Sylvia Miller, Joe and Saloma Miller, Mrs. Barbara Schlabach and I.

We are glad to hear Ellen Hersberger is recovering well from her recent surgery. She is enjoying her visitors and mail. Thanks to all.

Marlin, son of Enos and Laura Hershberger of Agler Road, is in the hospital having chemo for leukemia. He is 27 years old and married to Rachel Byler. They have been married for five years and have no children.

I had to miss out on our family gathering on Thanksgiving Day, being I was in Michigan. Son Joes hosted the event. Hopefully, we can all be together for Christmas on New Year’s Day. With so many grandchildren married, we now have made it official to have our family gathering on New Year’s Day.

Some say Black Friday is maybe the biggest shopping day of the year, but maybe for the hunters’ wives, it might be the first day of hunting season. Seems to me to be a fair exchange. How about it, guys?

After the house fire at neighbor Eli Byler’s on Oct. 9, they are living in their new house. Amazing what can be done with men working together.
