It is a rainy, cool morning on Jan. 7 and I wonder if it will turn to snow. I think I’d rather have snow than all this rain. But, hang on; we’ll probably get our share yet.

Another year has gone by and a new year has started. It seems like each year goes by faster.

We had our family Christmas gathering at son Wayne and Judy’s on New Year’s Day, with all present except daughter Betty and family from Mio, Mich.

The evening of Jan. 7, our churchwomen plan to get together at Eli and Kathryn Byler’s for our gift exchange. I have not seen their new house since it was finished after their fire.

The evening of Jan. 6, Danny and Karen and little girls, Marlin and Marsh and son, and I were at son Perry’s for his birthday. We had grilled burgers, salad, cake and ice cream.

On Jan. 8, some of us ladies plan to visit Mrs. Saloma Miller, of Madison Road, for her birthday. We will take lunch along. This includes Clara Hershberger, myself, our daughters plus Saloma’s daughters.

Nephew Robert W. Detweiler, of Summertown, Tenn., was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street and is in critical condition in the hospital. Latest reports were he has pneumonia.

From Out of the Past

Middlefield, Ohio: Jan. 9, 1899

Weather is very changeable.

The coldest we had yet was on the 2nd with 4 below zero. Today, it is 4 below freezing, with about 5 inches of snow.

Health is not very good, with some having the “grippe,” while others are having measles.

S.E. Mast was very low with heart trouble, but is better at this writing.

S.J. Byler and Miss Maryann Yoder were married on Jan. 2 and left for Holmes County on the 6th.

John Miller, of here, has bought the Davis farm at Huntsburg, 100 acres for $1,800.

Chuckles

Conversation overheard at a class reunion –

John: “Have any of your boyhood hopes been realized?”

Tom: “Yes, at least one for sure. When my mother used to comb my hair, I used to wish I didn’t have any.”

Moral of the story is, be careful what you wish for as you might get it.

There will be a Bloodmobile at Joe’s Window Shop located at the corner of Shedd Road and state Route 168 on Jan. 12 from 2-8 p.m. If you need a ride, call 440-834-0326.

You all have a good week.
