Hello from Geauga County Amish Country

Monday was a cool fall morning

Monday was a cool fall morning. Not quite as cold as Sunday morning, but church services were held in a nice warm shop at neighbor Joe and Sara Bricker’s.

On Sunday evening, I was at son Ray and Judy’s for a roast beef dinner, along with their daughter Regina, Eddie and little Kaylene. It was delicious.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes to the family of David and Alma Byler of Bundysburg Road in the death of their 17-year-old son, who died from an accident.

Last week was a very busy week with grandson Allen Ray and Marcy Gingerich’s wedding on Oct. 8. On Oct. 10 was the wedding of neighbor Betty Bender and Andrew Weaver. They both had beautiful days.

On Oct. 11, I attended the estate auction of the late Susan Guy on Route 88, where son Rays are planning to move to shortly.

On Oct. 12, I helped with the salad bar at the D.D.C. Clinic auction at Buster Miller’s. There was a big crowd, with lots of merchandise, lots of food, silent auction and raffles. Outside they had train rides for the little people. There were people there from Pennsylvania, Michigan and different parts of Ohio. It was a fun day.

Planning to spend Oct. 17 through the afternoon of Oct. 20 are visiting family, including daughter Betty and Melvin Byler and family, which will include their married daughter Lorena and Loren Miller, son Norman Ray and Mary Ann and three children, son Nathan, Ruth and three children and Matthew, Marcus and Juanita at home. They plan to surprise Melvin’s brother Crist for his 60th birthday. They will get together at Uria Byler’s on Mumford Road on Oct. 19. On Friday evening, our family plans to get together at son Mark’s on Parkman-Mespo Road for a pig roast. We’ll also have chicken and burgers, baked beans, scalloped potatoes, salads, ice cream, hot fudge pudding and snacks, coffee and drinks. This is also for the married cousins and their families. It should be a very interesting evening. Marks have a nice new shop where we can set up tables to eat.

Time to clean out the flowerbeds and empty out the flower containers. Grass still keeps growing and needs to be cut every week, but that’s still better than shoveling snow.

Chuckles

Jones: “I’m in an awful fix.”

Smith: “What’s the matter?”

Jones: “I’ve lost my glasses and I can’t look for them till I find them.”

Anatomy Fare

Waitress: “I have calf brains, spare ribs, hog liver, cooked tongue and…”

Truck driver: “ Listen lady, I haven’t got time to listen to your troubles. Gimme a burger and a cuppa coffee.”

A Thought to Remember

Wear a smile and have friends; wear a scowl and have wrinkles.

The secret of happiness is to count your blessings, not your birthdays.

You all have a good week.
