Thank you, Mary Samide
On Jan. 2, Mary Samide bid farewell to her nearly 11 years as a dedicated Geauga County commissioner. Prior to becoming a commissioner, Mary served nine years as a Munson Township trustee. The Geauga County Commissioners honored Ms. Samide with a resolution crediting her service to the county with distinction and dedication and with paring down the $14.7 million deficit on the Geauga Safety Center in nine years.
Best wishes go to Mary Samide for her next endeavors or retirement.
Congratulations
Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin art students Nina Bershig, Amanda Spangler, Olivia Farone, Rebecca Mancini and Chris Evans earned awards in the expressions art composition sponsored by the Cleveland Clinic. Their works of art are being exhibited at the Global Center for Health Innovation. Their teachers, Mrs. Mary Ann Sedivy and Miss Susan Ancheta, were awarded educational grants by the Cleveland Clinic.

Volunteer Tutors Needed
United Way Services of Geauga County is seeking 100 tutors for the 2014-15 school year in Geauga County schools. Applicants must be available during the school day at least once a week. Visit www.uwsgc.org or call Joanna Randall at 216-463-2045 to apply or for more information.
Job & Family Services, 12755 Ravwenwood Drive, Munson, is seeking adults for its Volunteer Tutoring Program for elementary students who need help in basic reading and math. Applicants must attend training and complete a criminal background check, both provided by Job & Family Services.

Al-Anon Meetings
The next meeting for Al-Anon (Alcoholics Anonymous) will be held Jan. 16 from 8-9 p.m. at St. Luke Episcopal Church, 11519 Wilson Mills Road, Munson. The weekly meetings are free and offer support, guidance and encouragement to those seeking to overcome an addiction to alcoholic substances.

At the Senior Center
Reservations are due no later than Jan. 20 for the early Super Bowl party to be held 10 a.m. Jan. 30 at the Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive, Munson. There will be nachos and cheese while watching sports bloopers followed by a hot dog lunch with all the trimmings. Suggested donation is $5 per person. Call 440-279-2130 for reservations.
The newly formed Chardon Senior Center Book Club will meet in the center’s library on Jan. 21 at 1 p.m., to discuss this month’s selection, Garrison Keeler’s “Pontoon.” Copies are available at the library. The Chardon Senior Center is closed Jan. 19 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
