Historic Tidbit

Memorial Day began on April 26, 1865, when Mary Logan, wife of Union commander John A. Logan, saw young girls placing flowers on graves of soldiers at Blandfield Church in Petersburg, Va. Mrs. Logan implored her husband to request authorities to proclaim the date as Decoration Day, which he did. Subsequently, it was declared a national holiday to be known as Memorial Day to honor all who gave their lives, and continue to give, in military service to our country.

Fly the flag on May 25 and give thanks to our fallen heroes.
