Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving Day originated in the United States in 1621 when the Mayflower Pilgrims designated a day to give thanks for a bountiful first harvest. This began an annual tradition of giving thanks adopted by the various colonies, which eventually became states. President Abraham Lincoln designated the last Thursday of November as a national holiday in 1864. Originally a day of devotional observance, Americans now celebrate with big dinners, football games and parades. Fly the U.S. flag on Nov. 26 and give thanks for the freedoms we enjoy in our great country.
