Earth Day Extravaganza
April 22, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Geauga Park District’s Natural Resource Management staff invites you to celebrate Earth Day locally through its free, interactive event at Headwaters Park, 13365 Old State Road, Huntsburg Township.
Family-friendly activities include fishing instruction and practice on the beautiful East Branch Reservoir, a live animal reptile and amphibian show-and-tell, native plant gardening, expert speakers on current conservation issues, informational displays and a children’s nature craft.
Education will focus on wildlife and environmental issues facing Geauga County and what residents can do locally to make a difference for Mother Earth. Guests can stop in any time during scheduled hours.
Fish Stocking
Geauga Park District will be stocking six waterways at the following four county parks this spring:
- The West Woods’ Affelder Pond (largemouth bass & bluegill)
- Walter C. Best Wildlife Preserve (yellow perch)
- Big Creek Park’s Wild Goose Pond & Chestnut Pond (largemouth bass)
- Beartown Lakes Reservation’s Lower Bear Lake & Middle Bear Lake (largemouth bass)
Real-time stocking notifications are always posted on the park district’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Families are always welcome to catch and take fish from waterways in seven park district parks as long as they have a current Ohio fishing license in accordance with state regulations.
Location tips and the species of fish found there are posted at www.geaugaparkdistrict.org under Things to Do, then Fishing.
Plans for later in the year also include the stocking this fall of rainbow trout at Beartown Lake Reservation’s Lower Bear Lake, as well as largemouth bass and bluegill at Swine Creek Reservation’s Killdeer Pond.
