Pi Day Celebration
St. Mary School celebrated its sixth annual Pi Day on March 14. This year, the sixth, seventh and eighth-graders used pi in four different subjects.
In science, they participated in a lab that explored the density of cylinders where they used pi to figure out the volume. In math, they looked for pi in patterns and found some pizza in their pi calculations. In social studies, they learned how ancient cultures calculated pi and compared them to modern day approximation.
Pi was even found in their English class when they had to write a story using pi as a guide. Each word needed to have the same number of letters as a digit of pi.
Balloons and math posters were added for decorations as the whole junior high enjoyed celebrating this mathematical holiday.
