Join the senior support group at Maplewood at Chardon, 12350 Bass Lake Road, to learn more about the Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, share concerns and ideas, and hear about the most recent advances in research. The free meetings are held the last Monday of every month.

Spring Into Good Health

April 8, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

The Senior Health Fair will be held at the Chagrin Falls Senior Center, 7060 Woodland Ave. in Bainbridge.

There will be a variety of professionals, programs and services available, including: Ask the Nurse, Heinen’s Wellness Department, Bainbridge Fire Department, Geauga County Department on Aging’s Chore and Home Safety and Out Of County Medical Transportation. UH Geauga Medical Center will provide free blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol screenings.

For a $3 donation, enjoy a strata breakfast before or after the fair.

Be Remembered: March 17, 11 a.m. Hospice of the Western Reserve presents “Intro to BeRememebered.com” The first in a three-part “Be Remembered” series includes treasuring and honoring the best of one’s life. Gradually collect, organize and archive one’s finest memories and thoughts. Free.

Register for Senior Trash Pickup

To register for trash pickup, one must be 60 years of age or older, live in the community holding the trash pickup and be registered with Geauga County Department of Aging. The Department on Aging and the road crew will pick up refuse from registered seniors who need assistance and take it to the township dumpster.

No liquids, paint, antifreeze, motor oil or other hazardous materials, construction debris, rocks, yard waste, household garbage, televisions, computer monitors or small appliances with electrical components will be accepted.

All material should be consolidated in strong boxes and items should be kept dry and covered with a tarp if possible. Only 10 household items per home and the trash should be from the registered senior’s household only and clearly marked. Do not leave items curbside.

Seniors must be registered with the Department on Aging prior to pickup. For more information and to register, call the Department on Aging at 440-279-2129, 440-279-2135 or 440-279-2130 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

When calling, provide the senior’s name, address, phone number, date of birth, last four digits of social security number and a list of items needing removal. The cleanup is on a first-come, first-serve basis. The number of senior residents that can be served is limited.

Chester Township

April 18-20

A maximum of four tires off the rim and appliances with Freon removed will be accepted. Items must be left outside of home or garage by April 17.

Munson Township

April 25-27

Reduce wood or pipe to six-foot or less lengths. To prevent possible bed bug transferal, mattresses must be wrapped in plastic and securely taped or they will not be taken.

Unbroken car batteries, lawn mowers and a maximum of four tires off the rim will be accepted. To dispose of a junk auto or truck, call the township at 440-286-9255.

Items must be left outside of home or garage by April 24.
