Chore and Home Safety
The Geauga County Department on Aging’s Chore and Home Safety Program can assist seniors, 60 or older, with the maintenance of their homes, including the adaptations for disabilities. Programs are designed to meet health, safety, fire prevention and/or ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) adaptations. Certain criteria must be met in order for the department on aging to provide services.
The non-emergency programs are for Geauga County senior citizens. Should there be a need for immediate assistance, such as loss of heat, outside normal business hours, seniors are responsible for the cost and for contacting a vendor who can assist with the problem or repair.
All phone calls for any chore and home safety assistance must be initiated first by calling the department on aging directly, otherwise the cost will not be covered by the department.
The chore program has seasonal volunteer workers who provide routine home maintenance such as window washing, leaf raking, bush trimming and limited yard maintenance.
The home safety program contracts with professional workers to provide home maintenance such as plumbing, heating/cooling and electrical work. All contracted services must be approved and authorized by the department on aging.
Call 440-279-2130, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for qualification information and/or to schedule services.
