Medicare 101 Presentation

Trained Geauga Department on Aging staff will provide free, accurate and unbiased Medicare details to seniors at the Department on Aging Memorial Pavilion, 12555 Ravenwood Drive, Chardon.

Bainbridge/Chagrin AARP

June 7, 1 p.m.

The Bainbridge/Chagrin AARP Chapter 4527 will meet at the Bainbridge Town Hall, 17826 Chillicothe Road.

There will be a tango demonstration to get the group in the mood for summer. After the program, there will be a brief meeting and information to learn about upcoming events.

Upcoming trips include Meadows Casino and Racetrack on June 22 for a cost of $32, with a $30 casino bonus; and a trip to Greektown Casino in Detroit, Mich., on Aug. 27 for a cost of $32, with a $20 casino bonus. For information, see Skip or Marge at the travel table or call them at 440-338-3607.

Nonperishable food and paper products will be collected for the Food For Friends food pantry as well as dog food, blankets and hot dogs for the Geauga County Dog Shelter. Monetary donations also accepted.

Guidelines for Senior Trash Pickups Through September

In order to be placed on the cleanup list, one must first be registered with the Geauga County Department on Aging, be 60 years of age or older and live in the community holding the trash pickup. The Department on Aging employees, volunteers and local service departments will remove unwanted items from seniors’ homes, saving seniors the time and effort of taking it themselves.

For general guidelines on each cleanup or to register, call the Department on Aging at 440-279-2129 or 440-279-2130 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cutoff dates vary for each trash pickup, so call early to register.

Newbury Township

June 6-8

Have items ready to be removed on June 5. Do not leave items curbside.

Huntsburg Township

June 9

Items must be left outside home or garage on June 8. Do not leave items curbside.

City of Chardon

June 15-16

Unwanted items will be removed from the homes of Chardon City senior citizens June 15 and 16. Universal Disposal will pick up items curbside on June 18.

Russell Township

Sept. 21-22

Have items ready the evening before the pickup. Do not leave items curbside.
