October Lunch & Learn

Oct. 21, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Geauga seniors, 60 years of age and older, are invited to the Geauga County Department on Aging’s Lunch & Learn for October at Brooks House Assisted Living, 18144 Claridon Troy Road in Hiram. Come out and enjoy a free lunch and speaker who will discuss “Dreams Fulfilled: Creating & Achieving Your Bucket List.”

This Lunch & Learn is the fifth installment in a six-part series that take place at various health care facilities around Geauga County.

Limited transportation to Brooks House is available from the Chardon Senior Center. To register, arrange transportation, or for more information on the series, call the Chagrin Falls Senior Center at 440-247-8510. Next month, the series will take place Nov. 18 at Briar Hill.

Young of Heart

Oct. 21, noon

St. Anselm Young of Heart will meet at the West Geauga Senior Center in the West Geauga Plaza. Bring a brown bag lunch. Dessert and coffee will be provided.

Speaker Carol Shamakian will share the fascinating story of the Steele Mansion created in 1867. It is now a current historic inn and party center.

A Panama Canal cruise is planned for March 8-18 on the Coral Princess. Fares start at $2,500 depending on cabin choice and include airfare and more. Call Nancy for more information, 440-729-9684.

Health Care Planning

Oct. 26, 7:30-8:30 p.m.

The Advance Directives Committee of Geauga County Bar Association and Hospice of the Western Reserve will host a free presentation at Bainbridge Public Library for Geauga County seniors focusing on healthcare power of attorney, living will declarations and donor registration. Forms will be provided to those in attendance and the committee will work seniors to complete the documents.

Another presentation will be held Nov. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the West Geauga Senior Center for those who cannot make the October date. For more information, call the Geauga County Department on Aging at 440-279-2130.

Supernatural Series At Chagrin

Join one Thursday a month through December at the Chagrin Falls Senior Center for an hour-long program discussing the paranormal. Tricia Vidovic, community liaison at Bella Care Hospice, will present a different topic each month. Come armed with personal stories of hauntings, ghost sightings and experiences.

Upcoming dates include: Oct. 27 — “Ghosts & Hauntings” and Dec. 22 — “Paranormal & the Unknown.” All sessions begin at 11 a.m.

Bainbridge/Chagrin AARP

Nov. 1, 1 p.m.

The Bainbridge/Chagrin AARP 4527 will meet at the Bainbridge Town Hall, 17826 Chillicothe Road. The Rev. Kevin Horak, of the Church of Aurora, will present a program on the history of the Christmas tree.

Following the program, there will be a brief meeting about end of the year activities.

Food and staples will be collected for the food pantry as well as donations for the Geauga County Dog Shelter.

Veterans Day Luncheon

Nov. 10, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

A veterans recognition lunch will be hosted Pilgrim Church, 202 S. Hambden St. in Chardon. Catering provided by Mangia Mangia.

The U.S. Color Guard will present the colors, followed by a veterans pinning ceremony.

The luncheon is free for veterans and $15 for non-veterans.

If transit is needed, registration deadline is Nov. 1; otherwise, deadline is Nov. 8. Call Christine Bacon, 440-279-2131, to register; seating is limited.
