The Geauga County Department on Aging provides the Out of County Medical Transportation to Geauga County seniors, age 60 and older to designated parts of Lake, Cuyahoga, Portage, Ashtabula, and Trumbull counties, and the city of Twinsburg.

Do you need a ride for an Out of County Medical Appointment?

 

The Geauga County Department on Aging provides the Out of County Medical Transportation to Geauga County seniors, age 60 and older to designated parts of Lake, Cuyahoga, Portage, Ashtabula, and Trumbull counties, and the city of Twinsburg.

 

Out of County Medical Transportation is available to Geauga Seniors on a first come-first served basis, Monday through Friday. There are vehicles equipped with wheelchair lifts. This is a curb-to-curb service and individuals need to be able get in and out of the medical buildings on their own. A family member or attendant can also ride with senior. When you call to book your ride please provide us your doctor’s name, address and phone number, the appointment date and time and approximately how long the appointment may last.

 

There is no fee for this program.   Although, we will gladly accept donations to help enhance and grow the program. For further information please call the Geauga County Department on Aging at 440-279-2130.

Home Delivered Meals is Expanding–Volunteers Needed!

The Geauga County Department on Aging has expanded the Home Delivered Meals program. The route expansion began in early April and includes Auburn Twp, Bainbridge and South Russell.

The HDM program delivers warm, nutritious lunches between the hours of 11am-1pm, Monday through Friday to homebound seniors in the community.

GDA is looking for area agencies, organizations, church and individuals 18 years old or older, with a valid driver’s license, who are interested in volunteering for this program. Training includes filing GDA HDM Volunteer paperwork and a short orientation about the program. Volunteers can deliver meals on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or as needed/substitute basis.

New treatments for Arthritis Patients In the 21st Century

These are very promising and exciting times for patients who suffer with the pain and discomfort of arthritis. There are new laboratory and imaging tests such as Ultrasound and MRI which can diagnose arthritis conditions at an earlier stage and more precisely. This information provides earlier and better treatment leading to more relief of pain and prevention of deformities.

Common types of arthritis will be presented such as; Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Systemic Lupus, Sjogren’s Syndrome and Gout. New Biologic medications will be discussed as well as the importance of good nutrition and exercise.

Geauga Senior Citizen Trash pick-up Days

If you are a senior citizen who lives in one of the township or village listed below and have unwanted items that need to be picked up at your home during the trash pick-up days, sign up now.

How?? Sign Up Is EASY • First Register with the Geauga County Department on Aging at (440) 279-2129, by the cut off day or earlier! Once registered, seniors can be placed on the trash pick-up roster. To receive trash pick-up assistance, you must be 60 years of age or older and live in the Village/Township/City holding the pick-up.

Munson Township Senior Trash Pick-Up Days, April 24, 25 and 26! Seniors must first register with the Geauga County Department on Aging by April 17, or earlier!

South Russell Senior Trash Pick-Up Days, April 26th (West of 306), April 27th (East of 306)! Seniors must first register with the Geauga County Department on Aging by April 19, or earlier.

Bainbridge Senior Trash Pick-Up Days, May 1, 2 and 3! Please have items outside home or garage Sunday April 30th, the evening before the pick-up. DO NOT leave items by curbside. Seniors must first register with the Geauga County Department on Aging by April 24, or earlier!

Thompson Township Senior Trash Pick-Up Day Friday May 5. Seniors must first register with the Geauga County Department on Aging by May1, or earlier!

Burton Village  Senior Trash Pick-Up Day May, 9 and 10.  Seniors must first Register with the Geauga County Department on Aging by May 2, or earlier! Tuesday & Wednesday

Remember, only registered seniors can be placed on the pick-up list! So don’t wait, call now! When signing up for pick-up, please have a list of items that need to be removed.
