• Geauga County Tourism: April 26, 11 a.m. Learn about the Drive It Yourself Tour that is offered in Geauga County as well as some interesting places to visit anytime.

• Senior Day in the Park: April 27, 8 a.m. Join the Geauga Park District for pancakes, sausage and bird watching at the Rookery. Call the center to RSVP.
• Music & Relaxation: April 28, 11 a.m. Presented by Lucy Brown from Sound Inspirations.

• Walkers Club: Mondays and Wednesdays, 9-10 a.m. Join to get in an hour of walking, rain or shine. The center has a nice gym to use. Call with interest.

Daytime Senior Book Groups

Seniors who love to read are invited to join in interesting discussions on a variety of books. Pick up the yearly reading list at a local senior center or call Sandy McLeod at 440-279-2137.

Book discussion groups are held the second Monday of each month at Geauga West Library from 1-2 p.m. and the second Thursday of each month at Burton Public Library from 1:30-3 p.m.

A group will discuss “Clara and Mr. Tiffany” by Susan Vreeland on May 8 at Geauga West Library and “The Bookman’s Tale” by Charles Lovett on May 11 at Burton Library.

Discussion books are available for loan at the hosting library’s front desk. Call to reserve a book.

UH Quarterly Presentations

May 11, 11 a.m. to noon

University Hospitals will present “Men’s Health: Urology Talk & PSA Screenings” at West Geauga Senior Center.

Clients who are planning to attend, need transit or who would like lunch at the senior center need to RSVP by May 8. Call 440-729-2782.

Speaker Series with Hospice of the Western Reserve

May 12, 11 a.m.

Stephanie Yeaglin with Hospice of the Western Reserve will present “Have a Laugh: For the Health of It” at the West Geauga Senior Center, 12650 West Geauga Plaza. Yeaglin will define the history of therapeutic humor, identify the benefits of humor and distinguish between appropriate and inappropriate uses of humor.

Senior Trash Pickup Days

Senior citizens who live in one of the townships or villages listed below and have unwanted items that need to be picked up at their homes may sign up for trash pick-up days.

Register with the Geauga County Department on Aging (GDA) at 440-279-2129 by the cut off day or earlier. Once registered, seniors can be placed on the trash pickup roster. To receive trash pickup assistance, one must be 60 years of age or older and live in the village, township or city holding the pick-up.

For guidelines or to register for the pickup, call the Department on Aging at 440-279-2129 or 440-279-2130 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Only registered seniors can be placed on the pickup list. When signing up for pickup, please have a list of items that need to be removed.

Thompson Township: May 5. Registration cutoff is May 1 or earlier.

Burton Village: May 9 and 10. Registration cutoff is May 2 or earlier.

Montville Township: May 11 and 12. Registration cutoff is May 4 or earlier.

Burton Township: May 17. Registration cutoff is May 15 or earlier.

Claridon Township: May 18. Registration cutoff is May 11 or earlier.
