  • Intro to Music with Lucy: June 8, 12:30-1:30 p.m. The senior center is partnering with the CFP Community Center’s Children’s Summer Camp on a fun music enrichment program.

Free Memory Screenings

June 6, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Cheryl Hallowell, from UH Geauga’s Senior Adult Assessment Program, will offer memory screenings to provide seniors with their baseline numbers at Chagrin Falls Senior Center. Call Becky at 440-247-8510 for an appointment.

AARP Smart Driver Class

June 15, 11:15 a.m. to 4 p.m.

West Geauga Senior Center will host an AARP Smart Driver class. Preregistration begins at 11:15 a.m. Class begins at 11:30 a.m. and continues again at 12:30 p.m. after a half hour lunch break. Bring a bagged lunch or order lunch by June 5. Suggested donation is $5.

Cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers. Class fee is payable the day of course. Registration required; call 440-729-2782.

Huntsburg Senior Trash Pickup

June 15

Senior citizens who live in Huntsburg Township and have unwanted items that need to be picked up at their homes may sign up for trash pick-up days.

Register with the Geauga County Department on Aging (GDA) at 440-279-2129 by June 8 or earlier. Once registered, seniors can be placed on the trash pickup roster. To receive trash pickup assistance, one must be 60 years of age or older and live in the village, township or city holding the pick-up.

For specific trash guidelines or to register for the pickup, call the Department on Aging at 440-279-2129 or 440-279-2130 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Only 10 household items per home, and trash should be from the registered senior’s household only.

Only registered seniors can be placed on the pickup list. When signing up for pickup, please have a list of items that need to be removed.

Memory Mats with Ava Thomas

June 16, 11 a.m.

Gilmour Academy student Ava Thomas will demonstrate how to make Memory Mats, a personalized do-it-yourself placemat with pictures and phrases that act as memory cues for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. The product also serves as a conversation starter for visitors and caregivers.

Class will be held at the West Geauga Senior Center.

Spots are limited. Call 440-729-2782 to register. Call by June 5 if transit is needed or to join for lunch.

Please bring a picture of the person the Memory Mat is meant for, up to five pictures of people who are important to the person that can be cut to fit the mat, and a list of things the person is interested in or has a distinct memory of such as things they like to talk about, hobbies, favorite foods and careers.

Historical Leaders Discussion

June 21, 11 a.m.

Join for a free presentation at West Geauga Senior Center. Tricia Vidovic from Bella Care Hospice, will discuss the importance of some of the most famous historical leaders known.
