Lunch and Learn

Oct. 13, 12-1:30 p.m.

Join for a free event presented and sponsored by: ESOP (Empowering and Strengthening Ohio’s People) at Chagrin Falls Senior Center. Open to all Geauga County seniors, Rachel Slomovitz, ESOP financial empowerment coach, will discuss preventing senior financial exploitation. Topics to be discussed include: scams and financial abuse by strangers and people seniors know, power of attorney risks, identity theft and medical identity theft.

ESOP is a non-profit housing and financial counseling agency that recently merged with The Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging; all of their services are free.

Medicare Drug Coverage Options

Ohio Department of Insurance trained Geauga County Department on Aging staff and volunteers offer one-on-one reviews at Geauga senior centers. Compare the 2018 Medicare Part D and Advantage plans.

Appointments are available Monday, Oct. 16 through Thursday, Nov. 30.

Call 440-279-2130, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., to schedule an appointment. Bring a current list of medicines to the appointment.

Advanced Directives

 

Oct. 17, 12:30-1:30 p.m.

The Geauga County Bar Association Advance Directives Committee and Hospice of the Western Reserve will present information and answer questions regarding health care powers of attorney and living wills at the West Geauga Senior Center.

They will distribute the standard forms and return on Oct. 24, from 12:30-1:30 p.m., with attorneys from the Geauga Bar to help seniors complete the forms and notarize them. This will allow seniors time to think about what they personally want and who they would want speaking on their behalf if they are unable. The program is free.

Shindig & Schnitzel

Oct. 21, 5 p.m.

Geauga Department on Aging is hosting its third annual “Shindig & Schnitzel” to support Home Delivered Meals at the E.O.U.V. Club located at 8636 Pekin Road in Russell Township.

Doors open at 5 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m. Event features cash bar and raffle.

Cost is $45 per person or $400 for table sponsors, which include eight guests, bottle of wine and 40 raffle tickets.
