  • Pumpkin 101: Oct. 27, 11 a.m. Presented by Carol from Heinen’s Wellness. Learn about recipes and health benefits of pumpkin and how to incorporate more pumpkin into one’s diet. The program includes a make and take Mason jar food project – Mason jars will be provided by Heinen’s.

Parkinson Boxing Volunteers Needed

The Geauga County Department on Aging is in need of volunteers to help at the boxing with Parkinson’s class. Volunteers will work out alongside the boxers to help them reach an intensity level they might not be able to do on their own. Volunteers will offer encouragement, motivation and discipline providing seniors with hope and support.

The class meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Taekwondo Center in Chardon from 9:30-11 a.m.

Medicare Drug Coverage Options

 

Ohio Department of Insurance trained Geauga County Department on Aging staff and volunteers offer one-on-one reviews at Geauga senior centers. Compare the 2018 Medicare Part D and Advantage plans.

Appointments are available now through Thursday, Nov. 30.

Call 440-279-2130, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., to schedule an appointment. Bring a current list of medicines to the appointment.

For those who would like to research and/or review options after Oct. 16, go online to Geauga HMO/PPOMedicare.gov: Part D plans.

Matter of Balance

Hospice of the Western Reserve, University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center, the Lantern of Chagrin Valley and Geauga Department on Aging are offering Matter of Balance classes to Geauga seniors interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength and in preventing falls.

Classes will be held Mondays and Fridays, Nov. 3 to Dec. 1, at the Lantern of Chagrin Valley, 5277 Chillicothe Road in South Russell. The four week session meets twice a week from 9-11 a.m.

Seniors will learn to manage concerns about falls as well as set realistic goals for staying active, learn how to stay safe at home, complete exercises to increase strength and balance and learn how to identify and control the fear of falling.

This class is free for registered seniors. Space is limited.
