Celebrating 90 Years

Then, on June 17 from 2-5 p.m., the family of C. James Whipple will celebrate his 90th birthday at the Jay Wilson American Legion Post 112, 6671 Middle Ridge Road in Madison. Whipple lived in Thompson from 1967 to 1975 and was active with the Ledgemont Booster Club. No presents, please, but bring a story about Jim to share.

Becoming Geaugan

June 5, 1 p.m.

Geauga County historian Bari Stith will present “Becoming Geaugan” at the Chardon Senior Center. She will talk about the history and cultural traditions that differentiate the county community from the rest of Ohio. Explore how early migration, cultural baggage, architectural practices and agricultural traditions create a unique combination that allowed residents to become Geaugan.”

Bainbridge/Chagrin AARP

June 6, 1 p.m.

The Bainbridge/Chagrin AARP Chapter 4527 will meet at the Bainbridge Town Hall, 17826 Chillicothe Road.

Tango dancers will perform with music. After the demonstration, there will be a brief meeting and information about upcoming programs for the rest of the year. Enjoy treats donated by the birthday members and coffee to share after the meeting.

Collections are still being taken for the Food For Friends food pantry and Geauga Dog Shelter.

Senior Trash Pickup Days

Senior citizens who live in one of the townships or villages listed below and have unwanted items that need to be picked up at their homes may sign up for trash pick-up days.

Register with the Geauga County Department on Aging (GDA) at 440-279-2129 by the cut off day or earlier. Once registered, seniors can be placed on the trash pickup roster. To receive trash pickup assistance, one must be 60 years of age or older and live in the village, township or city holding the pick-up.

For specific trash guidelines or to register for the pickup, call the Department on Aging at 440-279-2129 or 440-279-2130 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Only 10 household items per home, and trash should be from the registered senior’s household only.

Only registered seniors can be placed on the pickup list. When signing up for pickup, please have a list of items that need to be removed.

Auburn Township: June 1 and 2. Registration cutoff is May 25.

Newbury Township: June 5-7. Registration cutoff is May 30, or earlier.

Huntsburg Township: June 15. Registration cutoff is June 8, or earlier.
