University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center and Department on Aging are hosting three free 2018 Cuisine and Culture program events in the UH Geauga conference center.

• Mexican Cuisine and Culture: Jan. 10, 12-2 p.m. University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center and Department on Aging are hosting three free 2018 Cuisine and Culture program events in the UH Geauga conference center. The first event features Mexico. Learn about their holidays, traditions and enjoy some Mexican cuisine. Space is limited; preregistration is required.
• Geauga Parks: Jan. 18, 1 p.m. Geauga Park District presents “Wildlife in Winter” at The West Woods Nature Center. Learn what is happening in the woods and wetlands and about the constant struggle to survive through the Ohio winter.

• Department on Aging: Jan. 10, 10:30 a.m. Find out what the licensed social workers at the Geauga County Department on Aging can do for seniors. Learn about programs and eligibility requirements.
• Podiatry Appointments: Jan. 19. Call the center for an appointment.

• Blood Pressure Screenings: Jan. 4, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A representative from University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center will provide monthly blood pressure screenings the first Thursday of every month.
• Book Club: Jan. 8, 1 p.m. Join for a discussion of ”Red Hook Road” by Ayelet Waldman at Geauga West Library.
• Q & A with Chief Purchase: Jan. 17, 11 .m. Chesterland Police Department’s favorite chief is back to answer questions.

Diabetes Self Management Class
A six-week self-management class that focuses on diabetes will be held Wednesdays, Jan. 24 through Feb. 28, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive. During each two and one-hour class, seniors will get support, find practical ways to deal with pain, fatigue and sugar control, discover better nutrition and exercise choices, understand new treatment choices and learn better ways to communicate with doctors and family about one’s health.
The class is free to all registered Geauga County seniors, but preregistration is required by calling the senior center at 440-247-2131. Lunch and transit are available.
