Senior Center Events

Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive, Chardon, 440-279-2130.

• Blood Pressure Screenings: Mondays, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Geauga Health Department provides free screenings.
• “The Civil War” Documentary Series: Wednesdays in May, 10:30 a.m. to noon. Each Wednesday will pick off from where the previous Wednesday left off.

Middlefield Senior Center, 15820 Ridgewood Drive, Middlefield, 440-632-0611.

• Chair Exercises: Monday through Friday, 9:15 a.m. Class is approximately 45 minutes and combines stretching, cardio and resistance bands.
• Mind Relaxation: May 16, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Marilyn Brennan will discusswhy relaxation is such a vital part of being healthy and techniques to use to “quiet the mind.”

West Geauga Senior Center, 12650 West Geauga Plaza, Unit #4, Chester, 440-729-2782.

• Chair Yoga: Tuesdays, 2:30-3:30 p.m. and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to noon.
• Blood Pressure Screenings: May 3, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A registered nurse from UH Geauga will provide screenings.
• Craft Club with Teddi: May 14, 1 p.m. Make a teacup centerpiece Cost is $6.

• Tornado Safety: May 3, 12:30 p.m. Guest Speaker from Geauga County Department of Emergency Services will discuss how to be prepared for an emergency weather situation. Call to register.

•Diabetes Talk: May 17, 12:30 p.m. UHHS Geauga registered nurse Sallie Messerly will talk about diabetes and how to manage the disease.

Senior Trash Pick-Up Days

Senior citizens who live in one of the townships or villages listed below and have unwanted items that need to be picked up at their homes may sign up for trash pick-up days.

Register with the Geauga County Department on Aging (GDA) by the cut-off day or earlier. Once registered, seniors can be placed on the trash pick-up roster. To receive trash pickup assistance, one must be 60 years of age or older and live in the village, township or city holding the pickup.

Thompson Township: May 11. Register by May 4.

Burton Township: May 16. Register by May 9.

Claridon Township: May 17. Register by May 10.

Middlefield Village: May 18. Register by May 11.

Chardon Township: May 29 and 30. Register by May 22.

Auburn Township: May 31 and June 1. Register by May 24.

The GDA can no longer go into senior’s homes to pick up unwanted items. Refuse will be picked up from senior’s garages, out buildings and drives.Only 10 household items per home; small items can be consolidated in strong boxes.

For specific allowable trash guidelines or to register for the pickup, call the Department on Aging weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 440- 279-2129 or 440-279-2130. When signing up for pickup, please have a list of items that need to be removed.

Music for Fun

May 11 and 25, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Senior citizens sing along to familiar tunes with the group and play the provided rhythm instruments every other Friday at the Chardon Senior Center. No prior music experience is required.

Lucille Cimino, of Sound Inspirations Music Therapy, LLC, facilitates the interactive group.

Financial Seminar

May 24, 1 p.m.

Steve Mrozek, with Edward Jones Investing, will present “Broadening Your Knowledge of Investing” at the West Geauga Senior Center. Refreshments will be provided.
