Senior citizens who live in one of the townships or villages listed below and have unwanted items that need to be picked up at their homes may sign up for trash pick-up days.

- Blood Pressure Screenings: Mondays, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Geauga Health Department provides free screenings.
- “The Civil War” Documentary Series: Wednesdays in May, 10:30 a.m. to noon. Each Wednesday will pick off from where the previous Wednesday left off.
- Geauga Parks: May 17, 9 a.m. Geauga Park District presents “From Jungles to Geauga: Songbirds of Spring” at Big Creek Park. Start with a pancake breakfast, then look for colorfully plumaged birds from the Tropics of Central and South America. Call to RSVP by May 14.
- Trivia with Tricia Vidovic: May 18, 11 a.m. Join Tricia from Arden Courts on the third Friday of each month as she tests seniors with brain teasers.

- Chair Exercises: Monday through Friday, 9:15 a.m. Class is approximately 45 minutes and combines stretching, cardio and resistance bands.
- Mind Relaxation: May 16, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Marilyn Brennan will discusswhy relaxation is such a vital part of being healthy and techniques to use to “quiet the mind.”

- Chair Yoga: Tuesdays, 2:30-3:30 p.m. and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to noon.
- Dementia Toolbox: May 22, 11 a.m. to noon. Learn how music therapy, pet therapy, art therapy and other alternative therapies play a significant role in helping persons suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia.

- Veterans Breakfast: May 15, 9 a.m. Call the center for reservations. Breakfast is free for veterans.
•Diabetes Talk: May 17, 12:30 p.m. UHHS Geauga registered nurse Sallie Messerly will talk about diabetes and how to manage the disease.
Senior Trash Pick-Up Days
Senior citizens who live in one of the townships or villages listed below and have unwanted items that need to be picked up at their homes may sign up for trash pick-up days.
Register with the Geauga County Department on Aging (GDA) by the cut-off day or earlier. Once registered, seniors can be placed on the trash pick-up roster. To receive trash pickup assistance, one must be 60 years of age or older and live in the village, township or city holding the pickup.
Claridon Township: May 17. Register by May 10.
Middlefield Village: May 18. Register by May 11.
Chardon Township: May 29 and 30. Register by May 22.
Auburn Township: May 31 and June 1. Register by May 24.
Newbury Township: June 4-6. Register by May 29.
The GDA can no longer go into senior’s homes to pick up unwanted items. Refuse will be picked up from senior’s garages, out buildings and drives.Only 10 household items per home; small items can be consolidated in strong boxes.
For specific allowable trash guidelines or to register for the pickup, call the Department on Aging weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 440- 279-2129 or 440-279-2130. When signing up for pickup, please have a list of items that need to be removed.
