Senior citizens who live in one of the townships or villages listed below and have unwanted items that need to be picked up at their homes may sign up for trash pick-up days.

Senior Center Events

Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive, Chardon, 440-279-2130.

  • Blood Pressure Screenings: Mondays, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Geauga Health Department provides free screenings.
  • “The Civil War” Documentary Series: Wednesdays in May, 10:30 a.m. to noon. Each Wednesday will pick off from where the previous Wednesday left off.
  • Rules of the Road: June 5, 11 a.m. to noon. Trooper Jennifer Detmer, with the Ohio Highway Patrol, will present the rules of the road and how to keep safe. Ask questions that you may have! Call 440-279-2131 or 440-279-2126 to register. Call the senior center by May 28 if lunch or transit needed.

Middlefield Senior Center, 15820 Ridgewood Drive, Middlefield, 440-632-0611.

  • Chair Exercises: Monday through Friday, 9:15 a.m. Class is approximately 45 minutes and combines stretching, cardio and resistance bands.
  • 5-Minute Crafts: May 30 at 11:15 a.m. List of crafts will be given that day. Call to register.

West Geauga Senior Center, 12650 West Geauga Plaza, Unit #4, Chester, 440-729-2782.

  • The Healthy Cookout: May 25, 11 a.m. A wellness coordinator from Heinen’s will give an educational and informative presentation on healthy eating and cooking.
  • May 29 from 9:00AM until 11:00AM – Social Work Appointments, If you need to see & talk with a GDA Licensed social Worker, Today is the day, call to make an appt.
  • HEAP: May 29 from 11-11:30 a.m. Join for an informational presentation by Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP).

  • Social Work Appointments: June 5, 9-11 a.m. Call to schedule an appointment.

• AARP Safe Driving Class: June 6, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $15 for AARP members, $20 for non-members. Call now to register.

Senior Trash Pick-Up Days

Senior citizens who live in one of the townships or villages listed below and have unwanted items that need to be picked up at their homes may sign up for trash pick-up days.

Register with the Geauga County Department on Aging (GDA) by the cut-off day or earlier. Once registered, seniors can be placed on the trash pick-up roster. To receive trash pickup assistance, one must be 60 years of age or older and live in the village, township or city holding the pickup.

Auburn Township: May 31 and June 1. Register by May 24.

Newbury Township: June 4-6. Register by May 29.

Huntsburg Township: June 13. Register by June 6.

Parkman Township: June 14 and 15. Register by June 7.

 

The GDA can no longer go into senior’s homes to pick up unwanted items. Refuse will be picked up from senior’s garages, out buildings and drives.Only 10 household items per home; small items can be consolidated in strong boxes.

For specific allowable trash guidelines or to register for the pickup, call the Department on Aging weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 440- 279-2129 or 440-279-2130. When signing up for pickup, please have a list of items that need to be removed.

Bainbridge/Chagrin AARP

June 5, 1 p.m.

Bainbridge/Chagrin AARP Chapter 4527 will meet at the Bainbridge Town Hall, 17826 Chillicothe Road.

Motivational speaker Tom Strong will speak on lung disorders, including asthma.

There will hold a brief meeting after the program to go over what is happening the next few months.

Food and staples will be collected for the Food for Friends food pantry as well as dog and puppy food, hot dogs and other items for the Geauga Dog Shelter. Monetary donations are also appreciated.
