State Art Qualifiers
From more than 12,000 entries submitted to the highly competitive Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition, five artworks by four NDCL artists have been selected by regional judges to advance to the state competition this weekend. Congratulations to the following students in their respective categories: Joe Frankhauser and senior McKinzie Trotta, drawing; junior Joe Frankhauser and senior Kelly Nieser; mixed media; and senior Meghan Olexa, painting. Judges will select 300 works for the actual exhibition, which opens later this spring.
AP?Physics Students Discover Career Options
Students of physics teacher Mrs. Pauline Cheeseman are getting a jump-start on preparing for college courses and future STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) career options in their AP physics class.
Last year, the science department decided to expand the AP physics course to include the study of electricity and magnetism.
“The students truly benefit from the expansion of the AP curriculum to include electricity and magnetism,” said Mrs. Cheeseman. “Both the AP classes are centered around promoting critical thinking, which is an essential skill for STEM careers.”
Senior Daniel Kling explained the course has helped him decide what he would like to do.
“I would like to major in mechanical engineering next year,” Daniel said. “This class has definitely helped prepare me for what to expect in college and beyond.”
Gymnastics Excellence
Sophomore gymnast Claire Spech had a great day at the state gymnastics meet last Saturday by finishing as runner-up on balance beam and third in all-around. Claire scored 9.375 on beam, and she posted a 36.625 in all-around. She also tied for ninth in floor exercise with a 9.100.
