Volunteers Still Needed for Geauga Cleanup Days
The Geauga County Department on Aging is still in need of volunteers to help during the spring Clean-up Geauga Days, which run through May.
Individuals and organizations are welcome to volunteer and choose any date in May that best suits their schedule.
By volunteering just a few hours of time, one can help a senior citizen remain independent and allow them to live in a safe, clean environment.
Individuals or groups who can help may contact the Department on Aging at 440-279-2130, 440-564-7131 ext. 2130, or 440-834-1856 ext. 2130 and ask for Bob Debevits, home maintenance coordinator, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Resources for Caregivers
The Geauga County Department on Aging and the Geauga Professional Association Specializing in Seniors Outreach Committee are sponsoring informational meetings for individuals taking care of an elderly family member or friend.
Meetings will be held at 3 p.m. and again at 6 p.m. May 29 at the Geauga County Department on Aging, located at 12555 Ravenwood Drive in Chardon. Both meetings will feature speakers form community agencies regarding Geauga resources available for caregivers.

Senior Golf Outing Announced
The Geauga Senior Board of Trustees is hosting the first of the summer golf outings May 15 at Fowler’s Mill Golf Course on Rockhaven Road in Munson Township. Check-in is at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
The cost is $23 for nine holes of golf, a cart and lunch. Mail or drop off a check made payable to the Geauga Senior Center, Attn: Senior Golf, Send check to 12555 Ravenwood Drive, Chardon, OH 44024, by May 10. Mark the envelope golf.

Dare to be 100: May 16, 12:30 p.m. Seniors will learn about summertime safety during a presentation by UHHS Geauga Medical Center. Discover ways to avoid the heat and prevent dehydration.

Diabetes Support Group: May 14, 12:30 p.m. Led by Care Corp, guest speaker will be Health Quest. Learn about diet, medications and supplements for diabetics.
Lilac Luncheon: May 15, 10 a.m. Enjoy a catered meal with dessert. Event features door prizes and Mary Faktor, performing a one-woman comedy. Cost is $12 per person.

Register For Claridon Twp. Senior Trash Pickup
Claridon Township Trustees and the Claridon Road Crew are joining forces with the Geauga County Department on Aging for the Claridon Township Senior Trash Pick-Up Day May 16.
To register for trash pickup, one must be 60 years of age or older and live in Claridon Township. The township road crew and the Department on Aging will pick up refuse from registered seniors who need assistance and take it to the township dumpster.
No liquids, paint, or other hazardous materials, construction or remodeling debris, rocks, yard waste, household garbage, televisions, computer monitors or small appliances with electrical components will be accepted.
A maximum of four tires off the rim, propane tanks, appliances and other unwanted items will be accepted.
Only 10 household items per home and the trash should be from the registered senior’s household only. Items must be left by the garage, not curbside.
Seniors must be registered with the Department on Aging prior to pickup and must be home the day of the pickup, or have someone 18 years of age or older that is appointed by the senior present to sign a release for collection.
To register, call the Department on Aging at 440-279-2130, 440-564-7131 ext. 2130 or 440-834-1856 ext. 2130 weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please indicate if assistance is needed removing items from the home.
The cleanup is on a first-come, first-serve basis. The number of senior residents that can be served is limited.
