Newbury Fatal Crash Claims 2 Lives

A two-vehicle fatal crash on Sperry Road, at the intersection of Fairmount Road, in Newbury Township, claimed the lives of two Cuyahoga County men early Tuesday morning.

A two-vehicle fatal crash on Sperry Road, at the intersection of Fairmount Road, in Newbury Township, claimed the lives of two Cuyahoga County men early Tuesday morning.

At 7:40 a.m. June 1, troopers were requested to respond to Sperry Road for a report of a serious injury two vehicle crash, according to a news release issued by Chardon Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Troopers arrived on scene and located a 2013 Lexus ES-350 and a 2015 Jeep Wrangler in the intersection. Both vehicles had severe damage after having crashed.

The investigation revealed the Jeep was traveling north on Sperry Road and the Lexus was traveling east on Fairmount Road. The Lexus failed to yield at a stop sign and was struck on the passenger side by the Jeep. The Lexus continued off the northeast corner of the roadway, struck a stop sign and came to final rest on the roadside, the release said.

The driver of the Lexus was identified as Arthur Brown, 81, of Beachwood. He was pronounced dead at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center. Brown was wearing an available safety belt at the time of the crash, the state patrol said.

The passenger of the Lexus was identified as Harvey Rosenbaum, 85, of Pepper Pike. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Rosenbaum also was wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Jeep was identified as Sandra Battaglia-Kobe, 40, of Rome. She was transported to Cleveland Clinic – Hillcrest Hospital for minor injuries.

The Geauga County Sheriff’s Office, Newbury Township Fire and Rescue, Mason Healy Towing and Bainbridge Towing assisted OSHP at the scene and with removal of the damaged vehicles.

The crash remains under investigation, the release said.
