A crash involving an ambulance and an SUV at state Route 608 and U.S. Route 322 in Claridon Township on Feb. 11 resulted in minor injuries, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said in a press release.

At around 1 p.m., a Community Care Ambulance driven by Nathan Turk, 26, of Warren, with passenger Ben Murch, 35, of Madison, was traveling eastbound on Route 322 at about 1 p.m. with lights and sirens activated while responding to a medical call.

A 2024 Toyota SUV driven by Keith Sargent, 67, of Mentor, was traveling southbound on Route 608 and failed to yield at the intersection, striking the ambulance, the patrol said.

The ambulance — which was not transporting a patient at the time — was knocked onto its side, according to the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office blotter.

Sargent sustained minor injuries and was transported to University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center by Burton Township emergency medical services.

Neither the driver nor passenger of the ambulance was injured.

The patrol reported the scene was cleared by 3 p.m.

Assisting at the scene were the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office, Burton Township Fire and EMS and Interstate Towing.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation and no charges had been filed as of Feb. 13.
