Auburn Township Fiscal Officer Fred May was arrested for a probation violation Nov. 29 and taken to the Geauga County Safety Center.

A violation of probation bench warrant was issued Nov. 21 and an alert for failure to report and submit for random substance use testing was issued Nov. 22, according to Chardon Municipal Court records.

The violation stems from a 2021 charge against May for driving under the influence and failure to control.

On Feb. 25, 2022, May was sentenced to one year of probation, which included no use of drugs or alcohol, no bars, random testing, full BMV compliance and 90 days of alcohol/SCRAM monitoring, according to court records.

May was brought to the jail directly from court and did not post bond as of Nov. 29 because a court date had not been set, according to the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office.

May grew up in Auburn Township and is a Kenston graduate. He is an attorney with a local practice and has served as Auburn Township fiscal officer since 2013, according to the township’s website.

The Geauga County Maple Leaf reached out to Auburn Trustee Eugene McCune, but he declined to comment.
