Under new legislation approved May 14, only certain flags may be flown on property owned by the city of Chardon. Chardon City Council unanimously approved the ordinance after previously voting 5-2 to have the city law director draft the legislation. Vice-Mayor Heather Means and Mayor Chris Grau cast the dissenting votes during that decision. Means, who was not present May 14, had previously expressed hesitation about adopting legislation based on concerns from residents that the city could fly flags other than those traditionally displayed.
